Not every sportsperson, singer or actor has a back-up plan when they are at the top of their game. While the majority are out having fun and living the celebrity lifestyle to the full, there are only a small number who are planning for the future and already putting things into place.
And for this reason, the luxury range of CR7 hotels is set to be launched as early as 2017, with the first examples being inaugurated in New York and Madrid.
If you haven’t guessed already, as the clue is in the name, the personality at the forefront of the brand is none other than Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
He has teamed up with fellow countryman and hotel businessman Dionisio Pestana to create this unique brand, which the pair hope to recreate across the globe.
The Pestana Group is the largest tourist hotel group in Portugal, and has a total of 86 hotels distributed across the globe in countries including Brazil, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, the UK, Venezuela, Germany and Madeira.
The first two CR7 hotels will be inaugurated in New York and Madrid in 2017, and the following year they will open two more hotels, one in Lisbon and the other in the home town of both – Funchal.
The project was presented in Lisbon earlier this week by the two, who both spoke of their passion for travelling and a good lifestyle.
The CR7 Madrid hotel will be located on the central Gran Vía, while the New York CR7 will be next to Times Square. And in Lisbon, there will be a CR7 hotel in the Plaza del Rocío, and in Funchal the hotel will be in the port, close to the statue of the footballer himself.
The CR7 range of hotels will be the next product to be launched with the same acronym. This is after the CR7 shoes brought out last year and the boxer shorts in 2013. And if that wasn’t enough for the star, there’s also the Legacy aftershave and the isotonic drink Drive.
According to Forbes, the CR7 brand is worth around 17 million euro, although the Polytechnic University of Valencia cites the figure nearer to 150 million euro.
Ronaldo is the third highest paid sportsperson in the world, and the first footballer to earn over 80 million euro on an annual basis.
