The new Forbes Rich List has been revealed and published for each country and it seems that positions in the top ten for Spain have changed since last year, with some climbing higher, some dropping a few positions, and new entries also making their appearance.

According to Forbes, the richest people in this country have increased their wealth by 9.2% in the last year.

It has also been calculated that the top 100 people on the list in Spain have amassed a collective fortune of 164 billion euro, which is apparently 15.6% of Spain’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

  1. Still at the top of the list for the richest people in Spain is Amancio Ortega, the founder and main shareholder of Indidex, the company behind textile and fashion giants such as Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and Pull & Bear. Ortega is the richest man in Spain, with a fortune of 46 billion euro. His wealth has been reduced by 1.6 billion euro, probably due to the drop in Inditex share prices, but that doesn’t change his position at the top of the leader board.
  1. Rafael del Pino & Family: In second place is Rafael del Pino and his family. Rafael del Pino is the largest shareholder of Ferrovial, a multinational infrastructure and transport company, and has only just entered the top three this year. They have a wealth of 6.4 billion euro.
  1. The appearance of the del Pino family means that Juan Roig, the founder and President of Mercadona, has been relegated to third position with his 6 billion euro fortune.
  1. Sandra Ortega Mera has also been relegated and now sits in fourth position from her previous third place. Sandra Ortega Mera is the eldest child of Rosalía Mera and Amancio Ortega and inherited her mother’s fortune when she passed away last year.
  1. In fifth place is Isak Andic with a net worth of 4.3 billion euro. He is the co-founder of popular clothing company Mango, which he founded with his brother in 1984. Today, Mango has approximately 2600 overseas stores and generates 80% of its sales abroad.
  1. Juan Miguel Villar Mir is the founder and president of global engineering construction company Obrascón Huarte Lain S.A. (OHL) The company is responsible for some of the major infrastructure projects in the world including the high-speed railway linking Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia and the Ural Polar railway in Russia. Villar Mir has a net worth of 3.5 billion euro.
  1. Following the death of Emilio Botín, former president of Santander Bank, his daughter Ana Patricia Botín, the current president, now appears on the top ten rich list for Spain with her brothers, with a fortune of 3.5 billion euro.
  1. Manuel Jove is the largest shareholder in the BBVA bank and has a net worth of 3 billion euro. However, he made his fortune in property, although a carpenter by trade, and built up Fadesa Inmobiliaria, the most important independent real-estate group in the country. In 2004 he was lucky enough to sell the company just at the right time and make a huge profit before the sector collapsed two years later.
  1. In ninth position is the Duchess of Alba with an amassed wealth of 2.8 billion euro.
  1. And finally, in tenth position are Franciso y Jon Riberas Mera, owners of the largest steel company in the country, Corporación Gestamp S.L. The brothers have a net worth of 2.6 billion euro.
