Fitur 2016 in Madrid

The 36th edition of the International Tourism Fair, FITUR, which runs for four days and is annually celebrated in Madrid, closed having registered its best ever results.

This year, the important event for the tourism sector, welcomed more than 232,000 visitors from across the globe – 6% more than in 2015.

And this also had a serious knock-on impact for the region of Madrid, as the event generated a massive 210 million euro in just four days.

The director of the tourism fair said she was pleased and satisfied with how the event went and is positive that tourism not only in Madrid, but all across Spain will benefit from it this year.

A total of 125,000 participants were involved in this year’s event, which stood out for the strong presence of international companies.

Out of all the participants, almost 10,000 of them were foreign, encompassing 165 different countries.

With such great results, 2016 is expected to be an even better year for the tourism sector than 2015, which was already a record year itself, and, of course, will create more employment and a greater wealth for each region in the country.

Last year, Spain welcomed in excess of 68 million tourists, 4% more than the previous year, and a new record.

But, the number of Spaniards who visited other countries also increased last year, and went up by a massive 16%.

From these results it is clear to see that the tourism sector is in full recovery, and businesses directly or indirectly involved in the sector should expect an even more successful year than last year.
