Backpacking around Europe and travelling from country to country by train is usually considered something you would do in your twenties. And for this reason, rail companies have always offered discount travel passes for those under the age of 26.
However, times have changed and, as a result, rail companies now have other ideas.
Discovering the amazing sights that Europe has to offer should be for everyone, which is why Interrail has come up with a new and exclusive ticket that permits unlimited travel across up to 30 different European countries.
There’s just one catch. Only those over the age of 60 are eligible.
So, for those with plenty of time on their hands and who want to travel Europe at their own pace, they can now sign up for an Interrail Tours pass.
The initiative has been especially created with pensioners in mind and is a special project that has been co-financed by the European Union, with the aim of making travel by train across Europe much easier and more comfortable for all those within this age bracket across the continent.
Interrail Tours have created 15 different tours, which form part of the Senior Rail Travel project. It was discovered that many older people would love to visit a number of European countries at the same time, but found that there was little on offer in the way of organized tours and package trips.
You can choose whichever tour best represents your personal tastes and hobbies, whether it’s gastronomy, history or outdoor activities.
Some of the destinations include Normandy and Avignon in France, Florence and Riomaggiore in Italy and Córdoba and Bilbao in Spain.
Additionally, as part of the scheme, the Interrail Premium pass has also been created. This ticket will be launched on 16 February and gives the holder discounted prices, free reservations and other advantages for the over-60s to travel around Spain and Italy.
